Welcome to the website of St. Bakhita Catholic Worker House (“Bakhita House,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). We are a Catholic Worker House located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, named in honor of St. Josephine Bakhita, patron saint of those who have been trafficked. Our mission is to live out the Beatitudes and provide a safe, healing community for women survivors of sexual exploitation and human sex trafficking, guided by the nine pillars of the Catholic Worker Movement.

By visiting this website, submitting a contact form, making a donation, signing up for our newsletter, or otherwise engaging with our online presence, you (“you” or “User”) agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). Please read them carefully.

1. About Our Organization

St. Bakhita Catholic Worker House is a nonprofit, faith-based organization serving women survivors in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We are supported by the generosity of individual donors, volunteers, foundations, and in-kind gifts. Our Executive Director resides at the facility and leads our education and community-building programs. We are a Member House of the Alliance to End Human Trafficking.

2. Resident Privacy & Confidentiality

The safety, dignity, and anonymity of the women in our care are among our most sacred obligations. These Terms reflect that commitment.

2.1 No Identifying Information Published

Bakhita House will never publicly identify, name, photograph, or otherwise disclose information about current or former residents without their express written consent. This includes on our website, social media, newsletters, fundraising materials, and in any other public communications.

2.2 Photography and Video

Any photographs, videos, or other media depicting residents, community members, or guests that appear on our website or social media have been taken and published only with the prior, explicit, and informed consent of those depicted. If you believe an image has been published in error, please contact us immediately at anne@bakhitahouse.org.

2.3 Third Parties

We ask that visitors, volunteers, donors, and event participants respect resident privacy at all times. Users of this website must not attempt to identify, contact, photograph, or share information about individuals associated with our residential community.

3. Donations

Bakhita House accepts monetary donations through our website via PayPal. All donations support our mission of providing safe housing, community support, and holistic care for women survivors.

3.1 Donor Anonymity

We respect the privacy of our donors. We will not publicly acknowledge, list, or otherwise disclose the name of any donor without that donor’s prior written permission. Donors who wish to be publicly acknowledged are welcome to indicate that preference when making a gift or by contacting us at anne@bakhitahouse.org.

3.2 Donation Processing

Donations are processed through PayPal. By making a donation through our website, you agree to PayPal’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Bakhita House does not store your payment card information.

3.3 Use of Funds

All donations are used to further Bakhita House’s charitable mission. We are mindful of voluntary poverty and simple living—consistent with the Catholic Worker tradition—and direct resources toward creating a dignified, beautiful home for the women we serve.

3.4 Refunds

Donations are generally non-refundable. If you believe a donation was made in error, please contact us at anne@bakhitahouse.org within seven (7) days and we will review the request on a case-by-case basis.

3.5 Tax Deductibility

St. Bakhita Catholic Worker House is a tax-exempt organization under applicable law. Donations may be tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Please consult your tax advisor regarding your specific circumstances. Donation acknowledgments are provided upon request.

4. Volunteer Engagement

We welcome volunteers who wish to support our mission through prayer, service, skilled labor, and community participation. By participating as a volunteer, you agree to:

Respect the privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of all residents and community members at all times.
Follow all site protocols, safety guidelines, and directions from Bakhita House staff.
Refrain from photographing, recording, or identifying residents or guests without explicit, prior written consent from Bakhita House leadership.
Conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the values of the Catholic Worker Movement and the mission of Bakhita House.

Volunteers are not employees of Bakhita House and are not entitled to compensation. Bakhita House reserves the right to decline or discontinue any volunteer engagement at its discretion.

5. Website Use & Acceptable Conduct

This website is provided to share information about our mission, accept donations, recruit volunteers, and connect with our community. You agree not to:

Use this website for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
Attempt to access, alter, or disrupt the website’s systems, data, or security.
