Greetings Friends of St. Bakhita Catholic Worker!
Last night I strolled across the parking lot to St. Martin de Porres Parish in order to attend their Revival. I was blessed to be accompanied by Monica, a resident at St. Bakhita House. As I sat their soaking in the powerful preaching and the off the charts Gospel Choir, she leaned over and in a hushed tone said, “they really inspire me”. And as I turned to respond, I looked at her and all I could think was “YOU really inspire me”. And I believe that best describes the rhythm of this past month. Inspirational!
Five remarkable women are now in residence at St. Bakhita House along with Rosie and I. We have enjoyed community meals (some even prepared by friends of St. Bakhita House), pumpkin carving, mindful yoga sessions, baking treats, and even raucous games of spades in our “cards for quilts” tournament. Life has been good. Adjustments in schedules and routines take time, but the community has truly been as warm as our home feels to those who enter our doors.
We are beginning to gear up for the holidays and have gratefully been blessed with many offers of decorations and gifts. But I do want to add that as we approach years end we will be sending out an appeal for continued support. We work hard to not over burden you with emails and mailings. But please realize a few times a year we need to especially ask for your help. This year we learned, from five areas of leakage, that we need to put on a new roof. It has been temporarily coated for winter, but will need to be fully replaced come spring. Hence, we will be humbly asking for your help with this large endeavor. Matter of fact, it just so happens that the theme of last night’s Revival was “Whom shall I send?”. It is our prayer that you will consider answering our plea with “send me”.
And please remember, on election day Tuesday, the “no matter whatness” of God’s love. No matter what . . . .
You are in our prayers,
Love and peace,
