There is a Season-Turn, Turn, Turn

There is a Reason-Turn, Turn | St Bakhita House

Greetings Friends!

This is a great time for seasons. Thank God it’s time for the season of spring. And I just may feel even more excitement for baseball season. But most of all, I thank God that Easter is an entire season. In the Western Christian tradition we are blessed to revel in the joy of the resurrection for seven whole weeks!

Ecclesiastes 3, even before the Byrds sang about it, reminds us that there is a season and appointed time for everything. I am privileged to witness women in our community using their time here at Bakhita House “to seek”, “to lose”, “to keep” and “to cast away”. They are engaged in the difficult work of managing unthinkable trauma and discarding old habits. These habits acted as coping mechanisms for the incredible trauma they suffered during tragic seasons of their life. They are putting off the old person and putting on the new. The new person that has always been there, but was blanketed by the sin of their exploitation.

Our Easter Feast was glorious. We hope yours was too. We are deeply grateful to all the donations and prayers that allow us these moments of grace. We also enjoyed celebrating several milestones in our women’s lives this week with special meals. Sharing a meal is such sacred time.

It will be exciting to watch our community grow these seven weeks. As Dorothy Day states, it is the love that comes from community that leads to such transformation. Please hold us in prayer, as we do you. And let’s all delight in the warmer weather, the winning Brewers season, and seven weeks of Easter joy!

Love and Peace,

Anne
