Shelter From the Storm

Shelter From the Storm

Greetings from St. Bakhita Catholic Worker Community!

Whew! What a storm we survived last Saturday. But guess what? We were warm and dry in our home thanks to our new roof! We deeply appreciate the many generous donors who contributed funds toward the purchase of a new roof. We were able to raise about 70% of the cost. We also appreciate the professional and expedient work of Wisconsin Roofing.

Upon reflection, it seems as though the roof is a metaphor for the spirit that permeates St. Bakhita Catholic Worker House. Our new, sturdy roof blankets our house making it warm and cozy. And warm and cozy is just how our community feels! And it is this feeling that contributes to the love and the healing felt by women survivors on their difficult journeys.

In other news, we have had so many meaningful visits as of late. Student groups from various colleges, the Marquette University Ignatian Volunteer Corp, the Kinship Community, and individual student service encounters. And, we welcomed our newest Catholic Worker, Elizabeth, onto the 3rd floor! We also have been honored by the World Mission Office during their “Women in Mission” month for being a Bridge Builder in the community! What a blessing.

We are so excited that the 100+ Women Who Care MKE Metro West chose us as the recipient of their incredible generosity. They will be providing a very generous donation to pay for outings and events for our women to partake in throughout the year. God is definitely so good and so are the many people that answer the call to love!

We wish you a blessed Holy Week and an absolutely beautiful and joyous Easter season,

Anne
