Greetings from St. Bakhita Catholic Worker Community!
There is so much to share with you! So, to keep it relatively brief, we will proceed with an easy “p”easy summary of our February highlights which include prayer, parties, pampering, presentations presents and pancakes! We had so much fun!!
On February 7th, we were blessed with a packed chapel to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Josephine Bakhita through prayer, liturgy and adoration. And the delicious soup and treats that followed fostered a wonderful sense of community . Thank you to all who cooked and baked for our party. And this celebratory spirit put us in the mood, a few days later, for our little St. Bakhita community Super Bowl party!
Another treat this month has been the generosity of supporters who provided the women survivors in our community with free skincare products and make-up after an evening of pampering and makeovers. The women were so delighted! And the love kept flowing as generous donations of St. Valentine’s Day presents, including books, cozy socks and chocolates, were bestowed upon the community.
And this month has brought a multitude of opportunities to share stories and presentations with so many parishes and organizations. Many blessings to Holy Angels in West Bend, the east side Family of Four Parishes, the Milwaukee Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, the Department of Catholic Social Responsibility of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Sacred Heart Seminary Cor Unum students, St. Josaphat Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order for inviting us to encounter your communities. . We discussed the lives of St. Josephine Bakhita and Dorothy Day, the history and nature of the Catholic Worker Movement and life at St. Bakhita Catholic Worker community. In West Bend, the generous members of Holy Angels Parish even held a pancake breakfast to raise funds for our work!
We are deeply grateful for these remarkable encounters and for all of your generous support. Dorothy Day believed strongly in the importance of gratitude. She called it the “duty of delight”. Here at St. Bakhita House, gratefulness overflows! Deo Gratias
Blessings and peace,
