Our Three-Year Anniversary Marks an Exciting New Direction

Well, we have gratefully emerged from a summer of great growth and expansion. As you may know, the last touches are being put on our newly remodeled and expanded bathroom, and we are breaking ground in our new Peace and Healing Garden. However, systemically, our biggest changes are rooted in the groundwork we have laid out, expanding our network of partners and care providers. We are now positioned to provide even more community housing and integral services for the women who live at St. Bakhita House. Through the grace of God, and the goodness of so many supporters and fellow partners, we feel that the women survivors in our community will increasingly be able to grow and heal in a manner that uniquely addresses their individual needs.

Some remarkable volunteers from St. Dominic’s and the Ladies of Charity have recombobulated the rooms that have been used by the 14 women who have transitioned out of Bakhita House. Our current women in residence are doing well. We are excited about welcoming new community members that are arriving in October and November. It is our hope that in a short, but measured time, our beautiful space and warm community will be fully utilized by women survivors in great need. Our multiple new partners are excited to support us in our two-year accompaniment of our incoming and current community members. We are extremely excited about our renewed vision and ask for your prayers as we work to fill the house and provide enhanced services.

In other news, our monthly Soul Care Milwaukee gathering was launched. Please know that you are invited to join us for one or all our future sessions led by our very own Catholic Worker in residence, Laura Hancock (see her lovely note and invitation below). Our Dorothy Day Deep Dive book study’s inaugural meeting is October 15th. We have only a couple of spots left. Information is available on our website. We would love to have you join the group! We were truly elated to see that our book of study drew the attention of the Dorothy Day Guild, which was founded in 2005 in the Archdiocese of New York and is the official association promoting the cause to recognize Dorothy Day’s sainthood. We feel so blessed and grateful! To see for yourself follow this link: https://api.neonemails.com/emails/content/gk_do1ETZ1-n3okd_F6F5S7ytZAYJV1PQbMCoK5sNDE=

Thank you so much for your prayers and your support! We feel your love and lean into it every single day.

Peace and love,

Anne
