Greetings Friends of St. Bakhita Catholic Worker Community,
To witness one of our community Moms dying Easter eggs with her children, for the very first time, typifies an alleluia moment here at St. Bakhita Catholic Worker House. God be praised! Easter is here!!
It is most certainly a time of hope, new life and new beginnings. Looking back, our Easter celebration was a lovely day filled with both a delicious feast and Easter joy. And it is a perfect season to celebrate our community here at St. Bakhita House. Please be assured that we are filled with deep gratitude for all of your support and prayers. The grace of God, and your generosity, make this alleluia possible.
And as we look forward, we celebrate a huge 90th!! That’s right, May 1st marks the 90th anniversary of the Catholic Worker Movement. And it is no accident that this is the Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker. This is a day to celebrate and elevate the dignity of human labor. And our home celebrates our mission of helping to combat the indignity of human trafficking and exploitation.
To commemorate this occasion we will celebrate this landmark anniversary at our community meal on Monday evening. We will also host a working lunch with sisters and associates of multiple religious orders. We are so excited to engage in discussions, discernment and planning as to how this group of immensely talented woman can best serve the women living in community at St. Bakhita Catholic Worker House.
This month we were additionally blessed with the opportunity to share our life with students at Marquette University, parishioners of the Catholic Community of Waukesha and members of the Catholic Professional Forum. And students from Messmer High School, Pius XI Catholic School and Divine Savior Holy Angels High School visited and helped us with house maintenance and chores. Alleluia indeed!
Rest assured you are in our prayers. May we all experience and recognize alleluia moments each and every day of our lives.
Blessings and peace,
