One day at a time. Such an easy to remember, but hard to live, mantra. Though it really speaks to our lives here at St. Bakhita House. I marvel at how the women in our community take each day as an opportunity for discipline and growth. They are present in this space and work so very hard to be true to their commitments and their new way of moving in the world.
Day by day, our garden is thriving! The daily attention that has brought it to this state of wonder is sometimes felt as tedious, and at other times it provides a stolen moment to stand in awe of this remarkable generative rectangle of earth that nourishes us.
And finally, the holy now is often filled with the presence of our beautiful coworkers/volunteers. The regulars show up faithfully– day by day. The one-timers, here to learn about our charism and give of their time and talent for a few precious hours, grace us with their interest and enthusiasm. Most of them young and filled with a spirit of interest and honest yearnings to make a difference in this time and place.
Today is a new day in a new and glorious season. Praise be to God and to all the forces that give us the opportunity to create a world where “it is easier to be good” (Peter Maurin). Day by day, enjoy each summer moment, living in the holy now.
Blessings and peace,
Anne
