Greetings Friends of St. Bakhita Catholic Worker!
Our hearts are filled with gratitude for your continued support and faithful prayers as we approach our upcoming launch. We wish you a very happy Feast Day of St. Josephine Bakhita which is celebrated on February 8th.
We are posting this a little early in time to share with you our St. Jospehine Bakhita Novena (nine days of prayer) compiled by our new full time Catholic Worker community member, Rosie! How powerful it would be, if those inclined to pray, would join in solidarity with us on behalf of the women who will live in our community at St. Bakhita House.
And we have more good news!! Two remarkable women have committed to supporting our efforts by serving on our Board. We welcome Mary Leach-Sumlin of the Franciscan Peacemakers and Sr. Vicki Chambers, SSND, who have generously agreed to walk with us! Sr. Vicki has compiled a fabulous St. Josephine Bakhita resource list to aid in your exploration of the life of this remarkable saint. This can be found at the end of our Novena and will have a permanent spot on our website in the near future. Please let us know if you have any additions to share with us.
And, in case you’re wondering, we still have a few spots left, if any female is discerning life at the Catholic Worker. We will be hosting information discussions on the Catholic Worker movement and the life and witness of Dorothy Day this summer. If you’re anxious to learn, contact me and I would be happy to share with you what I know. I would love to meet with you, your parish, or you school or group meeting.
Please don’t forget to mark your calendar for our Open House on May 1st, 2022 from 11am-2pm. In the meantime, please pray for love and for peace. We sure do need it. The harvest is plenty and we are the laborers!! St. Bakhita, patron saint of human trafficking and HOPE, pray for us.
Peace, love and prayers my friends!!
